Tanina
I was named TANINA after my Italian grandmother. Her name was Guytana, which is the feminine form of Guytano, an Italian form of Anthony. Tanina is a common nickname for Guytana in Sicily, where my grandmother was born. It is derived from the "Tan" in Guytana, plus "ina", which is a diminutive and affectionate addition, kind of like adding a "y" at the end of a name.

Oh, somehow I did not catch this at first, but it is definitely NOT the case that Guytano or Gaetano is a form of Anthony. The Italian form of Anthony is Antonio and it is a completely separate name from Gaetano -- check the entries for both Antonio and Gaetano in the dictionary on this site.

Guytana would be an Anglicized spelling. It would be Gaetana in Italian. My Italian name dictionary does not include Tanina, but it does have Tanino as pet form of the male name Gaetano, so Tanina would certainly be expected as a form of Gaetana.
