User suggested names
I often consult "Behind the Name" when I encounter a new or unfamiliar given name in my research. Because many of my relatives are of northern German origins I have searched on names and found them under "User Suggested" names. I have have found most of these user suggested names to be correct on further research. My question is to those that administer the "Behind the Name" site; since these are suggested, what are you doing about it. They seem to be legitimate additions. Are you doing further research to try and include them? Why are they languishing in the "User suggested" status? Surely from what I have encountered there is evidence to support these names. I guess I am a little disappointed that nothing seems to have been done to update these additions.

I think "languishing" might be the wrong word, since these names are fairly visible. A visitor can find them by typing into the search bar for instance. In my view the user-submitted area is not a waiting area, but a parallel collection.
The limiting factor for increasing the "main" collection of names is simply time. Some names can be moved over in a few minutes, but others take much longer. The quality of the submitted names is all over the map. There is also time-consuming research involved in finding the most-needed names among such a large collection.
Hopefully that answers your question, thanks for writing!

Hi user Steve,
Not all user-submitted names can be immediately added to the main name database. The user-submitted name database is made of 156,254 given names, which is so many to be included all at once to the main database. For your information, this site is getting updated every ~5 months, and every update is including around 200 given names, if the names have been verified.
In regard to the "legitimate additions", verified names are marked by the three check marks on the top right of the user-submitted name entry. It means that the editors have verified their listed usages (e.g. notable bearers such as celebrities, LinkedIn profiles, etc.) and their descriptions (i.e. the meaning and history of the name).
You can correct a user-submitted given names in the "Correct an existing given name?" section here: https://www.behindthename.com/submit/submit, or you can leave a discussion in the "Discuss" section of a user-submitted name, on the top right of the user-submitted name entry. When submitting correction, you can put the meaning and/or history of the name, the bearer(s) of the name, the pronunciation, etc. But one thing to note is, you must include a valid source (e.g. web links, book pages, news).
You can also contact Mike C (the editor-in-chief of the site) or any editors about this topic.(editor list: https://www.behindthename.com/submit/editors.php)
