Interesting, indeed! Here in South Africa I've known one Sallie and umpteen Sally people.
My father wanted to name me Sarah after his late mother; my mother vetoed it and I'm grateful, but also a bit sorry that they didn't think of using Sally instead of Sarah. I much prefer it.
