Lonna was named after Lana Turner. I saw one place it was hawian, another greek...I think it was. But found some dirivatives of the names. arona and miryam for rhonda.Yisraela and nediva for lonna and zahara and meira, orah for helaina.
Why I ask is we have jewish heritage we never knew we had. ( an aunt told us years later. And from researching.) We were wanting the closet of our names to what it would be in hebrew.
Do you have any suggestions? Some given names were broke down to fit that particual culture. so I was told. Makes sense though!
Could you also tell me were the surnames Kahler, Gabriel and Gearhart may come from?

Oh, I see - you want Hebrew *equivalents* . . .

According to Mrs Claire, a Jewish girl who used to be a regular poster on BtN, there are three ways of finding an equivalent Jewish name for an English name (or French name, or whatever).
The first way is to simply use the Hebrew version of the English name, if it has one. So someone named Simon might use Shimon as his Hebrew name.
The second way is to use a name with a similar meaning. For example, someone named Evadne ("good") could potentially use the Jewish name Tova ("good").
The third way is to find a name that starts with a similar set of sounds to the given name. So, someone named Brooke might use the name Breindel as their Jewish name.
I can give you some suggestions, but I must point out that I am *NOT* Jewish although I have Jewish ancestry, and I don't speak Hebrew. If you want a 'genuinely' Jewish name you should ask a Rabbi.

Chrisell. Thanks so much for your help. Interesing we both have 'chris'in our names. My middle name is 'Christine'.
I wish my parents would have told us we had jewish yeeears ago...it would have made research much easier! I don't know why they never told us prior. Not until our aunt was ill and before she passed did she mention it. my mom and father both had jewish.
I have done our family's genealogy for the past 13 yrs to finish one part of it now I begin on the jewish part.

I'm glad I could help :-) By the way - my real name is Christine! Chrisell is a combination of Christine and my middle name, Ellen, which is a variation of Helen, the same as Helaina is. We have very similar names!
