The meaning of "Wellington" is SO COOL that I checked two separate sources just to make sure they both agreed. The name means: "one who came from the village of the heathen temple in the glade".

Wellington comes from the Old English word, "Weolingatun", literally meaning "settlement", "village", "town" (that's the "tun" part) of the "Weolingas" -- a tribal name apparently derived from the Old English word "weoh" (meaning "pagan temple") and "leah" (a clearing in the woods, a "glade").
