name Lloyd

Welsh Ll would require an earlier tl, Thl or in this case fl (floyd is an Anglicisation of an earlier version before modifcation of f to th and merger of the thl cluster to the phoneme represented by Welsh ll). this rules out a derivation from Chlodovicus/Ludovicus (this is actually the same name Latinized at different times from different Germanic dialects). Clyde is from the river, via a family/toponymic name, not continuous with Saxon era names.
