The history related to its meaning is clearly under the Katherine entry; for an answer, it's "uncertain", and you can't say it means "pure".

People here have a habit of downvoting things even when it’s not that bad.

Or maybe it was context of which you said; ‘clearly’. Downvotes shouldn’t even bother you really.

For example: I got downvoted for saying thank you. :)
