"Life" is the prosaic Kurmanji (North Kurdish) meaning, but in onomastic use it is commonly rendered in translation in different forms, such as Veeyan, Viyan, Vejin, which may have other meanings in Kurdish, such as "resurrection", or even "Vienna". Without a thorough study of Kurdish onomastic history it may be difficult to verify which is the primary source, and which are the later spelling variations.
