Origins of female names Diadema and Lodusky
Hello,I'm trying to trace the origins of a female ancestor of mine, Diadema Lodusky Rice. She was born circa
1823 in either Tennessee or possibly Ireland. I'm curious about the name Lodusky. It appears as a female
first name and very, very rarely as a surname. Is it a literary reference? Is the name Diadema also a
literary reference or just a reference to a Diadem. Thanks,
Dana

"Diadema" appears to be a created name from the Latin (via Greek) work "diadem", just as you had surmised."Lodusky" is related to the following, 19th century, once-popular but now obsolete (in the U.S.A.) feminine names: "Ladusky", "Ludusky", "Laduska", "Loduska", "Luduska".All of these names are variations of the more familiar "Louise ", derived from the Germanic/Swedish/Slavic forms: "Ludovika", "Ludwiga", "Ludoisia", etc.-- Nanaea
