I'm afraid I know nothing about this in
Chile, but I do not agree with the statement "most Anglophones associate the name with
Augusto Pinochet." I think the huge majority of people in the United States would not remember who Pinochet was, and those that do would be much more likely to simply remember his surname than his first name. So in the United States I don't think there would be much prejudice against the name
Augusto because of Pinochet at all.
