Ilse
In the Emily books by Lucy Maud Montgomery Ilse is Emily's best friend. I know that it's the German short form of Elizabeth, but how is it pronounced?

Hi there! I think Ilse would be more like EEL-zeh. Not eel like electric eel, but the "i" sound more like a cross between "ih" like "important" and "ee" like "Easter". And then the 'e' at the end is pronounced "eh" like in "ember". I lived in Austria for a while and it takes a while to pick up on how the 'e' is really pronounced at the end of words... not really "uh" like the English name Sarah, but "eh" like "ember". Hope this helps! :o)
d'oh! you're right.
The s would be prn like z.
