Please identify the 'French words' which form part of Ayrton and mean 'promise' and 'peace'. It seems that you are confusing 'literally' with 'figuratively'.
If you are not able to substantiate your interpretation, the rest of us will have to go on believing that it refers to a settlement (-ton) on a Scottish river the Ayr)or a Yorkshire river (the Aire).
