Re: Meaning of the name EMMA
in reply to a message by Diana
Hi Diana! I have two baby name books and they differ in what the name Emma means. Both agree it is from German decent. One says Emma means "industrious", the other (as Sarahjeanne says) means "universal". It also says it means "nurse". I hope this helps. All names have a meaning, the trick is finding it!

Emma will be pleased to know she is not meaningless. However, she wants to be a doctor so I think I'll tell her about the "industrious" and "whole" and leave out the "nurse" so she doen't lower her sights. When they start respecting and paying nurses what they're worth, we'll tell her about the other meaning. THANKS much.

DianaI know a nurse who has a mug that reads "Do you want the person in charge or the person who knows what the *!)#@ is going on here?" Needless to say, it's very popular with the rest of the staff.Phyllis
