Its irish for Cathrine i Believe.

In Gone With The Wind, one of Scarlett O'Hara's sisters is Carreen, which they explain as a merger between Caroline and Irene. No indication of how it was pronounced, though!

look for your name amongst the irish and scottish names, i actually think yours sounds as if it comes from that group but it may be spelled different for people who don't know the gaelic pronunciation.
