In the UK census of 1891 I spotted a little girl, born in 1883 and named Derendo. Her parents were
Peter and
Mary, and her brothers were
Joseph,
James,
Alfred and
Thomas.
Perhaps the excitement of having a girl - she was the middle child - inspired her parents to wild imaginings, but mother was a housewife and father a coal miner. The ln is Heaton: firmly English!
I wondered if it could be
Dorinda, left over from the 18th century; but even that seems wildly exotic for a Lancashire mining town.
Any clarification would be most welcome!
