Would someone be so kind as to provide some information about this Czech/Polish name? It was apparently the surname of a saint, namely
John Sarkander - but it seems like it is a patronymic to me, ultimately derived from a first name. Could that first name even have been of Greek origin (if so, then I see Greek
andros "man" in it)?
Sarkander also somewhat reminds me of the Armenian surname Sarkisian, but whether they are etymologically related to each other, is uncertain to me.
