Do you know anything about the meaning and/or origin of the name Aquinnah?
What I found out so far:
- it's the name of
Michael J.
Fox' daughter. Full name Aquinnah
Kathleen. Twin sister of
Schuyler Frances.
- it's a place: Aquinnah, Massachusetts
-
Michael J.
Fox said in an interview that it is Native American and means "beautiful colors of the sea".
- aqua means water
I somehow doubt the Native American origin is correct. First of all there are millions of names that are apparently Native American yet they're not. Kaya, for example, or Aiyana. If there would be something to it shouldn't the information be more specific, as in the name of a certain tribe? And I know there are some translations of common names, like
Kateri for
Catherine, which are authentic but usually each child would receive a special personal name chosen by one of the elders.
Do you know anything about its pronunciation? I assumed ah-QUINN-na which I like best, because it leads to the nickname
Quinn.
However I know a place called Aquina, pr. ah-KEE-na. Still I think Aquinnah would be ah-KWINN-na, because of the double n.
Any information?
