Archivesorigin/meaning of my Aunts name
have recently taken over the care of my Aunt. Her name is Exilda Imelda, born in Massachusetts 1918. I've wondered about her name; She never had children and unfortunately has alzheimers/dementia and can't give any input. Anyone there that would have any idea?

I can't tell you much more than the old post Llewella pointed you to. Most of the instances of Exilda that I found were French-Canadian, so your aunt may have some Canadian heritage. I can't find it in France, so I suspect it's a French-Canadian invention, although there are a few examples of it as Exilde and Exilda in Spanish, and a few other names which seem to be related, like Ozilda and Asilda.
My guess: it's possibly an invention related to exiler in French or exillar in Spanish, and meaning 'exile'.

Not that that link helps much. I'd tend to go with the middle poster's idea.
When googling it, it seems to not have been a terribly uncommon name either because there were a few hits with someone mentioning a relative of that name.
