This feels like such a boneheaded question to ask but...

I have been looking at names containing 'ber' this morning like Bernadette and Auberon. I noticed that it said that the 'bern' means 'bear'. Common sense tells me that is talking about the animal. right? Bear as in GROWL??!! Or does it mean 'bear' as in 'endure'? I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for much!

And those that do mean 'endure' or 'carry' are usually phrased in a clear manner:
Christopher- 'to bear Christ,' after the mythological saint said to have 'born Christ' across a river.

Bear as in the furry animal - there's lots of animal names as root words in names, particularly in germanic-origin ones. :-)
