I was about to say that it looks like a feminization of Andronicus (as in Titus Andronicus)or Andronikos (as in the five Byzantine Emperors). I believe Andronikos is still used in Greece.
And there is a female short form Donika, as well as Andronika.ETA: I tried it on Facebooks and there were quite a few people named Andronica, Andronika, Andronikos...
BTW, where do you live? Maybe the family had Greek ancestry?___________________________________________________________
