Julius/Yehuda Jewish name
I have an ancestor who went by Julius in the US, supposedly an Americanization of Yehuda. He was born in the late 1800's and immigrated to the US from the Polish part of Galicia. What are other names he may have gone by in Poland? I want to be able to look up all possible variations for genealogical purposes. Thanks.

Most likely he went by Yehuda. When he came to America, the people at the immigration services probably couldn't understand his name and thought it sounded like Julius, and thus, that is what he was called.

He most likely went by the name Yehuda but in case he may have used Polish forms it may have been one of these:Judasz (Judas)
Juda (Jude/Judah)He could have also used the Yiddish form Yudel.
If he used Julius before coming to America the Polish form is Juliusz.

Please note a problem with one of the name linksThe Juda links to info for an Arabic name. It is definitely also the Polish form of Judah and Jude.
