Hey! I was just wondering if any of you new the meaning/origin to the following names. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Abela
Abiela - variant or Abela? or a feminine form of Abiel?
Abian
Aedammair - I heard this somewhere but have no clue to the pronunciation or origin

Hi Mika,

Abela is used as a short form of Apollonia, Alberta and Avelina in Low German.

And, sorry, but what is Low German? Im not familiar with the meaning of the term.

Hi Mika,

The name I mean is pronounced AH-bell-lah (stress on the first syllable).

I believe "Aedammair" to be an Old-Irish or archaic spelling of the modern feminine name "Aodhamair."

The Irish-Gaelic root is 'aodh' meaning 'fire,' but I cannot figure the origin of the 'amair' bit.

Very rough pronunciations are:
Aodhamair- [EE-mur]
Aedammair/Aedhammair- [AYM-mur]

Abela Looks like a feminine form of Abel to me.
