é in French is never pronounced like -ay. It seems like many people think so but it is not correct. E in French without the acute accent (and if you just say the alphabet in French) is pronounced like the vowel sound in first, thirst, burst etc. The é indicates that the E should be pronounced like the E in Eric.
The pronounciation should thus be veh-spahs-ee-ENN.
