Annelise or Annalise
I know the meaning...I know it's German..but,
I'd like to know some history...
Is it an old name? would it be considered classic or trendy?
THANKS in advance!

In his Historisches Deutsches Vornamenbuch, Wilfried Seibicke gives a first example for Anneliese in Germany in 1706.
It's older than names like Claire, but it's not older than the names Elizabeth or Mary. Annelise and Annalise are classic names that you don't see much around here where I live. I think Annalise is a nice name. :)
Hi Tara,
Annelise is not a particularly German name - at least it is very common here in Denmark. Most women named Annelise (or Anne-Lise or Anne Lise) are born between 1930 and 1950. Anne is a (for that period of time) quite popular form of "Anna" (the latter is coming up strongly nowadays)the name was mostly given to women born 1950-1990. Lise is a diminutiv of Elisabeth (turning into Lisbeth/Lisbet, then into Lisa, Lise and Lis).In Holland you find Annelies as a variant.
Annalise is a danish variant too, though a lot less common than Annelise.

In Germany, the most common form of the name is ANNELIESE. It was very popular in Germany in the 20s and 30s and still in use in the 60s, but it has been out of fashion since and is considered old fashioned today.
Thanks for the info!
