I came across the name Emyr in the DB, and I was wondering if it was popular in Wales (which I guess it wouldn't be because it didn't have a link to the popularity charts) or when it was popular. Also, I was wondering if anyone could help me get a better idea of the pronunciation.

It's not that popular but it's not uncommon. I know one who's in his thirties (from Anglesey), there are several on Wikipedia older than that, and Facebook turns up a whole bunch of school-age Welsh Emyrs. Certainly doesn't mean 'king' in modern Welsh though - that would be 'brenin'.

Not sure about its popularity, but gathering from other posts the pronunciation is EM-eer or EM-ur.
