I'd like to also point out that the Greek orthodox church was very uptight about (and actively discouraged) naming children with classical Greek names that have no associated saints. My daughter's name (
Nephele) has raised the eyebrow of many a priest during the past few years. In face the face of public pressure, the church now "allows" non-Christian names, but draws the line on two:
Nero (a somewhat misunderstood historical personality, if you ask me!) and Diokletian :)
