Hi!
The German place name Kiel derives from the original name of the town "tom Kyle" (Low German: to the wedge/key/cotter) which describes the shape of the Kiel fjord.
Some nice pictures showing that shape and more information on the city: www.kiel.de
It's a nice place - my uncle lives there ;)
You have to click on "Kiel im Portrait" with the English flag, then on the first picture and then on the English flag on the right (complicated.......)
