A couple of names.
Just wondering on these names:Nediya - her parents were Moroccan I think. I've been told it might be a form of Nadia (not convinced on that one though)?Kiel - I think it's probably from the city, but just want to know if there is any history of this as a first name other than the boy I've heard it on.Any information would be appreciated!

The German name Kiehl may be a place name in origin: one who came from Kiel, an area of standing water, the name of several places in Germany.

Keel is from the middle english kele, from the word kiel which meant 'boat'. http://www.internetnow.co.uk/dutchusa/nlusword.htmKael is a varient of the boys name Cael. Click on Cael link.I am very sure it's really from Kiel, and is german. The name has something to do with boats and water.

Hi!The German place name Kiel derives from the original name of the town "tom Kyle" (Low German: to the wedge/key/cotter) which describes the shape of the Kiel fjord. Some nice pictures showing that shape and more information on the city: www.kiel.deIt's a nice place - my uncle lives there ;)You have to click on "Kiel im Portrait" with the English flag, then on the first picture and then on the English flag on the right (complicated.......)Regards, Satu

In Morocco her name is more likely drawn from the Arabic Nadya 'moist with dew' from Nada 'morning dew/to be moist with morning dew' or 'generosity/to be generous'. Understandably, in desert climes, moisture and morning dew are much appreciated. Because of the similarity of form, the Arabic Nadya and the Russian Nadia are often confused, especially with the possibility in modern times of the borrowing from the Russian language given their rather glamourous presence in the Middle East (in Egypt the belly dancers often take stage names like Russia, Odessa, etc. - threw me for a loop too ;o)Devon
