It is an Arabic name - and it is pronounced Kay-san - in arabic it is spelled (romanized) Kaf-ya-seen-Alif-nun
To my knowledge its popularity is derived from a prophetic tradition from the prophet Muhammad wherein another derivation of the root form is used.
