Re: origin of my name
in reply to a message by raindancing
Ok I have actually checked Lorena in the database but there is nothing new in there I did not know. I would like to know where my name originates from and perhaps a meaning.
People are always saying what a lovely name and then straight after ask 'where does that come from?' Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Lorena NZ

From the Roman cognomen Laurentius, which meant "of Laurentum". Laurentum was a city in ancient Italy, its name probably deriving from Latin laurus "laurel". Saint Laurence was a 3rd-century deacon and martyr from Rome. According to tradition he was roasted alive on a gridiron because, when ordered to hand over the church's treasures, he presented the sick and poor.
