Chittaranjan is indeed an Indian name derived from Sanskrit, but the previous translation was rather free, to say the least. citta, from cit, to perceive, means mind or heart in common parlance. ranj is a root with obvious cognates in Greek and means to dye, so cittaranjan means that which colours the mind. The use is idiomatic, and that which gladdens the heart would be a better translation into English.
