Hi, guys. My daughter's Chinese friend is weary of spelling her name, pronouncing her name, waiting patiently while the round-eyes get her name wrong again (her words, not mine!) ... so at the ripe old age of 13 she's decided to find herself a new one. And she and her cousins have together "invented" the name: Talena, with both the a's being neutral vowels and the e being a long ee.
Which is fine by me if that's what inspires her. She's a trendy, pretty, fashionable child - definitely nobody's
Gertrude! (She's
Chin Hua at present - not the most complex name in the Middle Kingdom, one wouldn't have thought, but apparently she gets more variations than anyone would believe possible.)
However, if it should be that Talena means something unmentionable in Inuit or Croat or anywhere in between, I'd like her to know in advance so she can make other arrangements! And if anyone will know, it's this excellent List.
Yours optimistically
