Nicole didn't rank until the '50s when it shot to the 800s, and a decade later it was 187. From there it rapidly climbed the charts. Where on earth did it come from? What caused the sudden popularity? The same question goes for Danielle.

It is likely that they were popular soap opera names. Now the names are quite dated, which often indicates that they were related to pop culture. Look up the name under the decade in which the individual was born and you will find the reason. Most Nicoles and Danielles named after that decade were named to honor a relative with the name that was born in the said decade in which it was pop-culturally popular.
