Anaximandros / Anaximander.
Assuming that Anaximander is a form of Anaximandros, I wonder what the meaning is of the second part of the name ("mandros"). I already know that the first part of the name comes from anax "master, lord, chief."One would think that the second part is related to andros "man", but then the names should have been Anaxandros and Anaxander. An old post by Pavlos in the board archives states that mandros comes from mandra "an enclosed space, usually by walls". He didn't appear to be a 100% certain of this however, as he had said that he would have to look into it some more.Perhaps any of you is able to provide conclusive information? Thank you very much in advance. :)
