Hi! We've been tracing our family tree and we came a cross someone with the first name Askin and we were curious as to where it originates! Can anyone help?

The name Aşkin originates in Turkey.
It is a unisex name.
It's meaning is
1. It has passed beyond a certain period of time.
2. Superior to similar ones.
3. Too much.

According to online dictionaries, the Turkish word aşkın means over, beyond, exceeding, excessive, transcendent. But, it is also the genitive of a word meaning hanger, and possibly more relevantly of an aşk meaning love that is derived from Arabic عشق.

In context though it's more likely the Anglo-Norman name Askin "or Asketin, a pet form of Asketill … which is of Old Norse origin". The latter combines "As", god + ketill "kettle" (i.e. cauldron, pot), both a sacred, sacrificial utensil and a euphemism for "helmet".
