My daughter's name is Tanika (pronounced to rhyme with Konica, or "gin-and-tanika"). My husband is Thai, and we got her name from a book of traditional Thai names, derived from Sanskrit. It has the meaning of "substantial" or "dependable" person - but the connotation of "stubborn"!
Tan - from "Tor Tahan" - meaning the pedestal which holds offerings.
Nika - from "person" - in this case being female.
Hope this helps! It is not well-known in Thailand, either, being an old-fashioned name! I chose it because I liked the meaning (although the connotation has actually been true!!) and it started with the prettiest, fanciest letter of the Thai alphabet.
