How do they do it in Scotland?
Hi there. It's dawned on me that the Scandinavian pronunciation of Magnus is close to or identical with the original Latin ... no doubt that is a coincidence, but a nice one.
Magnus is also used as a name in Scotland, though - right? No doubt as a result of a few left-over Vikings. Do they use the version, or the more Anglo ? Bearing in mind the truth abouty Dalziel and Menzies, they are clearly capable of doing interesting things to an innocent alphabet ... and writing system!
And then there's Agnes ... always now with the spelling pronunciation in English, I imagine, though there was also a time when the French version was widespread. (I trust that Angus always ends in Gus! would not sound polite.)

Magnus isn't widespread in Scotland anymore. It was considered old-fashioned and belonged to a lot of older men, but perhaps it will make a comeback, like Angus is doing. We just pronounce it MAG-nuss :-)

Yeah, I've only know one man named Magnus, and he was pretty old. So it's not that popular anymore.

Please choose another posting name. We have an Iris.
Yes, we've had another Iris for ages . . .
She used to be BT, then Beata, then Iris, and I'm afraid she has first dibs on the name because she's been here much longer.
Perhaps you could post as Simplyiris instead?
