All I know I that it seems to be primarily a male name, but a search on the web showed women using it as well. My male friend & his father both had the name Jerre. His family is of Irish descent. Apparently it was first seen in a novel. Not a lot of info, but I am curious. Thanks to anybody for any info....have a good day.

There'an Italian American novelist named Jerre Mangione, I think in his case it's a nn for the Italian name Gerlando. However you say this family's Irish, so I don't know if there's any possible connection.

This is probably just a spelling variation of Jerry or Jere.
