Sergei suggestion
in reply to a message by Justin
I'm sorry your wife hates Sergei. I'm running into similar problems with my DH and names. :o) I do have a compromise in mind, though. The meaning of Sergei appears to be "servant;" would it be possible to give your son another name that means servant? The closest I could come off the top of my head was Stuart / Stewart, since a steward is a specific type of servant. I'm sure if you do some research (and use a thesaurus) you could come up with more possibilities. :o)

Interesting idea and approach.
Note, however, that according to the current knowledge the meaning of "servant" for Sergei is only judged as being "possible". Probable seems to be an unknown Etruscan origin of this Roman family name. Unfortunately, if the origin of a name is basically unknown, your approach has nothing to work with.
Anyway, I don't think that you can solve the problem of a wife that hates a particular name with etymology :)
