info on Aylwyn?
I've found Aylwyn [pron. 'eilwin] at the end of my old English dictionary, in list of given names.
It doesn't specify a gender, but sounds feminine to me - keyword, sound.
Can anyone tell me about its meaning and origins?

Actually this was probably male. I would assume it is an alternative spelling for Aylwin or Ailwyn, which according to Reaney & Wilson's A Dictionary of English Surnames go back to the Old English given name Aethelwine, "noble friend".
thank you :-)
