Anybody heard of Vincil?
I posted about this on name opinions, but thought it might be best to ask here, too. I met a guy today who goes by Vince, but whose full name is Vincil. He says it's an old Welsh family name. Has anyone heard of this? And if so, what is the name's meaning and history?

Well, a little Googling shows that Vincil certainly is a surname in the United States. The earliest example I've found is a Lewis Vincil who was living in southwestern Virginia in the 1790s.
It doesn't seem likely to be Welsh to me. If it is, it certainly has an Anglicized spelling, because the letter V is not used in the Welsh language.
