quetsion about name
My fiance and I were watching The Village which casts the actress Sigourney Weaver, and he mentioned that he likes the name. I searched for it on BtN but it wasn't listed ... Sigourney (in this case) is used as a woman's name, but I was curious, does it mean anything or is it a nice sounding made up name? Tia!

She took the name from Sigourney Howard of 'The Great Gatsby.' Where Fitzgerald came up with it is another mystery.
Sigourney is a French Huguenot surname that occurs in both the USA and England. It means one's ancestors came from a village called Sigournais. I have not yet been able to find out what that place name originally meant.
There was a well-known poet in the 19th century that Fitzgerald would have heard of named Lydia Huntley Sigourney. He may have gotten the idea for his character name from her.
