Lechuga surname
My maiden name is Lechuga, and I know very little about my father's family history except that the Lechuga family had come from Spain, and I don't know when they came to the americas, I'm guessing my grandfather's ancestors may have been among the conquistadors, but I'm not sure.
My grandfather's name was Jesus Lechuga. I think he was born in El Paso,TX, but his family had come from Chihuahua,Mexico.
My father thinks that the Lechuga name may have had either Romanian or Roman origins. I have always wondered if we had middle eastern or even Morroccan or Egyptian ancestry. Maybe even Greek. I have read somewhere that the Italian or Latin version of Lechuga is Lattuga.
I would really appreciate some help in this search. I have searched to see if it was on this site but haven't found it. There weren't any matches for the name Lechuga.
Thanks- Sheila Labbe (Lechuga).

Lechuga Family! I, too am looking for information on us. My Great Grandmother was Eusevia Lechuga and she lived in El Paso, TX. She married Amado Mendez. It is rumored in my family that there were red heads on the Lechuga side! My email is ciaosito@gmail.com and I’d love to be in the info loop and will share anything that I find. Much love and luck to us all!
My tata, Jesus Lechuga, was said to have auburn hair. I was born with the same auburn hair. Now my father didn't have auburn hair, unless it was auburn in his infancy.

My maiden name is also Lechuga i know very little about my father he past away when i was little but they to came from Chihuhua. MY HUSBANDS LAST NAME IS LECHUGA, HIS FATHER WAS FROM CHIHUAHUA MEXICO AND ALSO SPOKE IN NAHUATL. HE DOESNT KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIS LAST NAME BUT WE ALWAYS WONDER. IT IS A VERY UNUSUAL NAME. THE FACT THAT THEY SPOKE IN NAHUATL MAKES ME THINK IT MIGHT BE A VERY ANCIENT LAST NAME.
My maternal family's surname is Ortiz but we learned a while back that it was changed from Lechuga. I don't know why. But our roots are also from El Paso,
Sounds like my family. Just did the ancestry thing...found out my real last name is Lechuga...from Chihuahua and ElPaso...My great great great grandpa is Jesus and his son is Juan...but he married Felisa Gallardo and she died two years later...which is why I believe their child carried on her last name...just a hunch. Blessings....

Hi Sheila....my grandmother's maiden name was Lechuga and she told us a story about her father being kidnapped from Greece along with his cousin who's last name was pappas. Both were young boys tending to their family sheep herd when they were kidnapped. The boys were placed on a working ship that landed somewhere in the Texas/Mexican golf. I would love to hear your story about your last name Lechuga. You can email me at diabeigi58@yahoo.com. best regards Dia

I think I did check that page, but I'll check a second time, thanks Irish Clair for reminding me. I'm hoping I'll find something someday. I think one of my ancestors must have been a vegetable seller or something, what do think? I may be wrong on that.
You're absolutelly right! It's very possible that one of your ancestors was a vegetables seller or a great lettuce buyer or had something to do with green colour (front of his house, clothes, etc.).
Well, I'm no name expert, but I do know 'lechuga' in Spanish means 'lettuce' if that's any help :)
Yes I know that Lechuga means lettuce in spanish and when my hispanic friends at work find out what my maiden name is they laugh.
My family has roots in the Chihuahua area and still lives in El Paso where most of my moms side (Lechugas) live in
Any lechugas from arizona?? Trying to learn my family background I have never me another lechuga!
I just saw this, a little late. Sorry. My Lechugas are from Yuma, Arizona. My tata's family was from Chihuahua. Some of them came from the Satevo region and some from Santa Isabel(?) region. That's two that I can remember right now. I know there's other places. My tata's family had some connection to Ruidosa, TX and El Paso. But I don't know much about that part.
