Unfortunately my parents named my brother after the brazilian footballer. I tried getting in touch with him (the footballer) but to no avail.

As you probably know, the footballer's name is Arthur Antunes Coimbra. According to this site: http://www.ofutebol.com/nicknames.shtml his sister called him Arthurzico, an alternate diminutive of Arthurzinho meaning "little Arthur," which was shortened to Zico. I have not been able to find evidence that others use -zico as a diminutive, so it might have just been a family-specific nickname that was intended to mean "little," without any actual meaning in Portuguese.

If you had bothered to do any research you would have discovered the highest incidence of the name being used is in Bangladesh and then Egypt. If you want to discover the name's meaning you may want to start with these 2 countries.

purely coincidental. names and words often have completely different meanings in different languages. You need only be concerned with the meaning of Zico (if any) in Egypt and Bangladesh if you plan on using it there. Could be they're just fans of Brazilian soccer.
