xing-xing more information please
I read a book and this was one of the characters names. It was pronounced shing-shing and meant something like star or shining star. If any one knows the meaning or if I'm not pronouncing it correctly please let me know. thanks!

Yes, it means "star" & has a Chinese origin.

For what I know, in chinese, [x] sounds [s], so the pronunciation of "xing xing" should be [seen seen]. I don't know the meaning.
the chinese x is something between "s" and "sh", I was told it sounds a bit like the sh sound in "magic", but I mostly pronounce it as "sh", my ears can't tell the difference yet :)
The meaning depends on the characters used, there are so many characters pronounced the same way, that you can't tell the meaning simply with the prononciation.
But the character meaning "star" is for sure pronounced as "xing" (at least in mandarin)

It is prounounced "shing". And if it means "star-star", it would be first tone, if that means anything to you.
