Kalle / Calle Origin and Meaning

This name, which I've seen spelled as either Kalle or Calle, is a MALE name (NOT to be confused with the feminine "Callie"!), comes from Germanic/Scandinavian areas.What is its origin and meaning, and is it related to any English or Biblical names?

Kalle a Nordic name. And it's especially the Swedish pet form of Karl. (That's what my Danish baby name book says.) And yes, it's male.It's prn KAL-leh.

Thank you very much! :-)Does the name "Kalle" appear in other languages besides Swedish and Finnish, by any chance?BTW...did you just now add that to the database? ;-)
