Archives"Candasie" or "Kandasie"
Dear List,
Does anyone know the origins of the female name, "Candasie"?
My gg-grandmother was a plantation slave/house servant in Dutch Guiana (Suriname), South America in 1835. The region had been a colony since the 1600's and both African and Amerindian peoples were used as slaves.
I have a archival record that it was then when she was "given" the name, "Candasie". There is nothing more available about her, this name, her origins or why this name.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
