There is nothing you can do about that. Just try correcting people. Nowadays, there is so many names (and words) pronounced incorrectly. We say names so many foreign famous people the wrong way.
Possibly because they're avoiding the sound of , which meant or means to throw up, vomit, hurl etc.
Many English speakers pronounce Caitlín 'Katelyn' because that's how it would be phonetically pronounced in English. :) Not entirely unexpected, I think, but then I'm monolingual.
Coytchleen is a much more prettier pronunciation than Caitlin.

I think people pronounce CAITLÍN like katelyn because they don't know how to pronounce Irish names. I'm a fluent SWEDISH speaker and find it a bit irritating when people can't pronounce Swedish names, but since they don't speak Swedish, how should they know?
I mean, everybody pronounces EITHNE like ETH-nee, when it's - as far as I know - is closer to EN-yah.
But I find the Irish pr. of Caitlin to be more beautiful. And I detest when people spell SÍOBHAN Shevaughan or Chavonne.
