Callaghan?
I recently saw the name Callaghan and fell in love with the look of it. I don't even know how it would be pronounced or the origin. I think it is a boys name. Any help would be great! Thanks!!

i love that name
I have known many people with this surname throughout my life, having grown up in a region of the US with a large part of the population of Irish descent (myself included). I have known many Callahans/Callaghans, and even Callinans (a variant). It's a great Irish surname, but I wouldn't use it as a fn.
It may be a Surname. I think(but don't quote me) that it's pronounced Kowl-Uh-han.
I personally would pronounce it KAL-a-han. But I don't think this is the correct pronunciation but I have met people with the surname and it was pronounced like that.
The surname is an anglicized form of the Irish surname Ó Ceallacháin which means "descendant of Ceallachan". Ceallachan is pronounced KAL-a-kawn apparently.
It is said to derived from the word 'ceallach' meaning "strife". This is somewhat disputed but no real alternative etymology has been brought forward.

KAL-a-han is how it is pro. in Ireland.
Good, I thought it might just be me being oblivious. I'd only every heard it pronounced like that. :)
