Hi
Maeve,
there's a Norwegian name Tørres, and a son of Tørres would be Tørreson or Tørresson.
Tørres is a Norwegian form of the Old Norse name Torgils which means "
Tor (Thor/Þór)", the god of thunder, and "arrow shaft".
And there's a Norwegian name
Tore, and a son of
Tore would be Toreson or Toresson.
Tore is a form of the Old Norse name Thorir/Þórir which means "
Tor", the god of thunder, and "warrior".
I haven't heard about the name Torre, but it sounds more like
Tore than like Tørres..., but maybe your ancestors just changed the ø into o?
Hope that helps...?
Regards,
Satu
